Who is writing the script of your life?
The story of Esther is one of the greatest tales in the Bible. The twists and turns, the despair and the victory make it a worthy script for a feature movie. The story is still remembered and celebrated today by Jewish people with Purim as was requested in ESTHER Ch 9 v 28.
- Esther was a Jewish orphan, living in exile in a Persian city. She was not being raised for greatness or influence. (Ch 2 v 7)
- It appears Esther had a rather unusual gift from God. She was beautiful! In Ch 2 v 17 we see that the king was attracted to Esther and made her his queen.
- Meanwhile, Haman was climbing the political ladder and he became so powerful that he was able to convince the king to decree the genocide of all Jewish people. (Ch 3)
- Mordecai called on Esther for help.
She explained how she couldn't and Mordecai asked again with the prophetic words; "And who knows but that you have come to royal position for such a time as this". (Ch 4 v 14)
- Esther learnt that there are no certainties with God.
She knew what she had to do, but she also submitted to God. She planned to fast for 3 days and then Ch 4 v 16 says; "when this is done, I will go to the king, even though it is against the law. And if I perish, I perish".
- Esther then displayed courage (and no doubt used her beauty!) to win over the king and what follows is a hugely satisfying tale of justice and redemption.
What makes this book of the Bible unique is that there is no mention of God anywhere in the 10 chapters of Esther. Like so many stories told, some will see clear evidence of God at work; others will see fate, karma or coincidence. Do you see God's hand at work in your life?
