Our Battles Belong to God

Our Battles Belong to God

February 19th 2009

Gideon had shown his obedience earlier in JUDGES Ch 6.  Reading from Ch 6 v 34 until the end of Ch 7 we can see Gideon receive the confirmation he needed from God and then success in a major battle.
The way his success came about was less conventional and worth learning from.

  • We see the anointing of God’s Spirit on Gideon in Ch 6 v 34.  If we want to be used of God then His Spirit is essential.
  • Gideon wanted God to confirm his calling.  God did so and Gideon obeyed.  There is the suggestion that Gideon could have obeyed early.
  • Gideon had too many soldiers for God to prove he was doing the fighting.  God wants our battles and He wants the acknowledgement.
  • The army had no fighting weapons at all.  Christians don’t need to be the aggressors.  The battle belongs to the Lord!
  • The Israelite army cut the enemy off from the water supply showing that God’s tactics are still clever.

If God is going to use us in big battles or small, He needs our obedience and our understanding that He is fighting the battle.
With only 300 men and no weapons it is obvious that Gideon knew who was doing the fighting.

The question is whether we let God fight our battles in our life?
