Jesus Testimony
Recently, we have been looking at sharing our own story of coming into a relationship with Jesus. It seems appropriate now to look at some of the things Jesus said about himself. When Moses asked God for His name back in EXODUS 3 v 14, God replied with the words "I am". Today we will look at seven occurrences of Jesus saying "I am" when referring to himself.
- JOHN 6 v 35 is where Jesus says "I am the bread of life". He sustains us in all that we do.
- JOHN 8 v 12 is Jesus stating "I am the light of the world". Direction and guidance are found in Jesus.
- Next we read in JOHN 10 v 7 Jesus claiming "I am the gate for the sheep". Salvation and eternal life come from choosing Jesus.
- JOHN 10 v 11 reads "I am the good shepherd". This expression reflects the love and commitment Jesus has for people, even to the point of death.
- "I am the resurrection and the life" is what Jesus tells a grieving Martha in JOHN 11 v 25. Jesus has conquered death!
- JOHN 14 v 6 proclaims "I am the way and the truth and the life". Contrary to popular mythology, there is only one way to God and it is through His Son Jesus.
- Finally, in JOHN 15 v 1 Jesus says "I am the true vine". To bear spiritual fruit, the believer must stay connected to Jesus.
Make no mistake about it - for Jesus to choose and use the phrase "I am", He was directly claiming to be God. Whatever it is we may be looking for in life, there is a good chance that the answer is found in one of the above passages. It is good to share our own testimony, but it is important to always come back to Jesus and to learn more of His amazing story.
