Society Comming Back to God

30th October 2009

Hezekiah was a great King. He showed leadership, urgency and a desire to know and please the Lord when all around him disregarded God. His 29 year reign in Judah was successful and there is much to be learnt from him. The account of Hezekiah's reign we will read is from 2 CHRONICLES Ch 29.

  • In Ch 29 v 3 Hezekiah seized the day and set to work immediately in unlocking and repairing the temple. He had a calling and he embraced it.
  • To change his society he knew he needed the Priests clean and working together (v 4 - 12). Believers today can influence society, but their own lives must be in order.
  • The priests had a sacrifice for their sins (v 15). For real and lasting change to occur in peoples lives today an understanding and acceptance of Jesus' sacrifice for sins is required.
  • The sacrifice lead to worship. This was a natural reaction to the restored relationship with the Creator. Genuine worship occurs when we reflect on what Jesus has done for us and it also draws others in (v 31b).
  • In v 36 we read of the celebration that occurred because God had helped this occur so quickly.

In a world that does not seem to want to know its God, revival is possible in a church, community or country. Godly leadership is required and repentance will also be necessary, but God can bring about change for good and He can do it quickly!
