Second Thoughts
Sometimes we please God with our actions. The inspiration to do the right thing makes the decision clear-cut, but time can have us doubt our initial judgement. Elisha had a servant named Gehazi who, after some time, decided Elisha had been too generous and he would go and get some of the wealth that had originally been offered. The story is found in 2 KINGS Ch 5 v 19 - 27.
- Gehazi felt the need to lie to Naaman in order to convince him (v 22). Sneaking off and telling lies should be loud warning bells of poor choices.
- Naaman gave more than was asked for. His wealth had little meaning now he had had an experience of God. His faith didn't waver.
- Gehazi returned home and hid his plunder. Our lives should be transparent and when we have things to hide it is of concern. Compare with GENESIS Ch 3.
- There are no secrets with God and Gehazi received Naaman's leprosy as a punishment and reminder of his poor choices.
Faith in God needs to be consistent. God doesn't change, but sometimes our convictions do. If there is a call of God on your life then don't doubt this, but hold firm to the faith that you once had.
