1st XV 2010 Season
The 2010 season will see NPBHS starting the season with a 3 day training camp based at Clifton during the April holidays. At the conclusion of camp we will play our first full match of the season against St Kent’s.
Sadly, we are down to 3 traditional matches this year as Te Aute have had to withdraw from our annual match. Their roll has dropped to such a low level that they feel unable to field a competitive team. This is especially disappointing as our annual fixture against Te Aute is our longest running exchange and in fact is one of the longest in the country.
We have the usual 7 Super 8 matches, with the bonus of playing Napier Boys’ at Yarrows Stadium as the curtain raiser to the Taranaki – Tasman ANZ Cup game.
Another big occasion will be the Hurricanes qualifying match against local rivals Francis Douglas; this year on the same day as the All Blacks test against Ireland.
The SAS quadrangular competition with Tauranga Boys, Hastings Boys and Westlake Boys continues again this year and we will go into these games with some confidence as holders of the trophy.
In addition we travel to Wellington to play Rongotai College and we have a home fixture against Wanganui High.
This year’s squad has a great deal of experience with 17 year 13 lads, which adds a bit of extra pressure to ensure a successful season. The 1st XV will be coached by Glen Hannah and Justin Bigwood, and managed by Larry Wilson.
