Our School

New Plymouth Boys' High School is a secondary school for Year 9 to Year 13 students. It is a modern, boys' only high school located in the township of New Plymouth.

The school sets very high standards for its students and offers a wide range of courses and activities.
We value learning with others, individual learning and life long learning.

We welcome international students to share this educational experience with us and aim to make their time with us enjoyable and rewarding.


Facilities

The school has well-equipped Science laboratories, Computer and Applied Technology laboratories, Art and Music suites, an information centre, two gymnasia and extensive sports grounds.

New Plymouth Boys' High School is well-equipped with Information technology. It is available to students of all levels and is used in a wide variety of subjects. The school is completely networked giving access to the Internet and library facilities throughout.

New Plymouth Mayor shortlisted for World Mayor award
New Plymouth Mayor Peter Tennent is in the running to be named World Mayor for 2010.

Run by City Mayors, an international think tank on urban affairs, the World Mayor Award honours Mayors with the vision, passion and skills to make their cities incredible places to live in, work in and visit.

Mayor Peter Tennent has reached a shortlist of 25 from around the world – whittled down from the 840 nominations received. Others on the shortlist are from Australia, Canada, USA, Latin America, Europe and Asia.



NZ Safety and quality of Life among the best.  

The 2010 version of the  Mercer Resorces survey ranking Quality of life in over 200 cities world – wide has been released. Auckland and Wellington maintaining their impressive rankings. Auckland is tied for 4th while Wellington remains in 12th place.

NZ communities are also measuring up well for safety and quality of life. The city of New Plymouth has earnt the World Health Organisation’s “International Safe Community “ designation.


Climate

All year round there is something to see and do. In the winter you can ski on Mount Taranaki and in the summer the beaches, streams and walking tracks are quite popular.

The best months to visit Taranaki are from December through January, February and into April. While the weather can change most days, over those months, the temperature tends to be pleasantly warm.

This is a region with a blend of natural beauty, attractions and activities and is becoming more well-known with an increasing number of visitors. It is described as 'real new Zealand' and presents a holiday destination with something for everyone.

The official Taranaki population from the last New Zealand census (2001) was 102,858 people and it's growing!  The majority of these people are located in the city of New Plymouth and towns below.
