Cycling is a demanding and challenging sport. Here at New Plymouth Boys’ High School we have some of the country’s top cyclists with Jacob Lester having just been chosen for the New Zealand development team (2016).
This is an all-year-round sport with road-riding during the winter months and track-racing during summer.
You will need a reliable road bike and a good quality helmet along with clip-in cycling shoes. If you would like to take up the sport but don’t have a bike, we can arrange for a loan bike through the New Plymouth Cycling Club.
Training consists of endurance rides of up to three hours on Wednesday during SCP period, during winter.
During summer the focus is more on track-racing, which happens on a Tuesday and Thursday evening. There is a large number of school events, both local and national, throughout the year in both road and track disciplines, and there is also a supportive club racing environment for junior cyclists with the local cycling club.
