NPBHS vs FDMC Sports Exchange
An outstanding result yesterday for both 1st XV Rugby and 1st XI Football teams winning their games against Francis Douglas Memorial College.
1st XI Football
After a goal-less first half, the game sprung into life in the second when substitute Olie Scott jumped with the keep from a well worked cross to score the opener. A second followed shortly afterwards; A long ball through the middle caught out the FDMC keeper who punched the ball into the face of the on rushing Scott, the ball fell kindly for Babo Khan who calmly placed it in the net. NPBHS were in full control of the game at this stage. However, some poor defending let FDMC back into the game within 10 minutes of Kahn’s goal as FDMC made it 2 – 1. An equalizing goal followed shortly afterward after a superb shot from 20 yards out. Ten minutes before the final whistle Braedan Quilter-Phipps finished from close range to seal the win for NPBHS who retain the Somers-Betteridge Trophy for the 5-year running and qualify for Nationals. 1st XV Rugby
It was another close game in the annual NPBHS 1st XV – FDMC 1st XV fixture. FDMC came out with plenty of intensity and posted the first 10 points through a try and a penalty. NPBHS finished the first half down 10 – 7. FDMC started strongly in the second half again and took the lead with 20 minutes to go at 15 – 14. NPBHS scored a further try to retake the lead 21 – 15. Both teams had opportunities to take control of the match in the last 10 minutes, however NPBHS were able to hold on and take a hard fought 21 – 15 win.
Promising signs ahead for both teams in their upcoming games. Great work, gentlemen!
