Hostel Staff

A major point of difference when comparing NPBHS boarding facilities to other school hostels, is that the housemasters live on-site and are teachers in the day school. Seven teachers and their families live within the school grounds and are supported by two matrons. Having teaching housemasters allows the hostel to more easily manage the communication between school and hostel, with regard to a boy’s performance and behaviour at school. The boys also have the added benefit of having teachers able to support them in their homework after school.

The Hostel is led by the Director of Boarding and is assisted by Mr Jamie Stones and Mr Bevan Matene.  Five other teaching staff are located within the hostel area to provide supervision and support.

Matrons

The matrons are the day-to-day contact for our boarder’s health needs; they are our ‘house-mothers’. They all have intimate knowledge of the region’s health providers and are an asset to the staff and students at Hatherly House.

The matron can also arrange public transportation for students who have been granted leave for the weekends and arrange pick-ups and drop-offs at transit facilities.

Kitchen and Catering Staff

Hostel Kitchen

Mr Murray Trowen manages our kitchen and catering staff. Murray is a long-serving and valuable member of our hostel team. His dedicated and talented staff work in shifts to provide three daily meals and snacks to students and staff.

Our kitchen manager and staff can also accommodate specific dietary requests and will cater for group functions where and when possible.

Laundry Staff

Hatherly House has one dedicated laundry staff member who oversees student laundry.
