Rugby
Rugby is a traditional winter sport at NPBHS with the school having produced many fine teams and players in the past.
Rugby commences in late March. All trials for teams are played once all summer sport is finished. All teams take part in regular Saturday competitions and practice twice a week, usually on Tuesday and Wednesday during Sports and Cultural Practice.
In addition to regular Saturday games, there are a number of inter-school fixtures. The 1st XV traditionally plays against Hamilton BHS, St Pats Silverstream, Whanganui Collegiate, Palmerston North Boys’ High, Auckland Grammar and Francis Douglas. The 2nd XV plays Whanganui Collegiate and the Under-15’s play Auckland Grammar, Hamilton Boys, Palmerston Boys and Westlake Boys.
An Under-15 side is selected at the beginning of the year and they play together in preparation for a national tournament .
