Year 9

Choose a Subject

At Year 9, English, Science, Social Science, Health and Physical Education, and Mathematics are compulsory.

Students must select one Technology subject from Technology Electronics, Technology Metal, and Technology Wood.

Students must select one subject from Arts subject from Music, Performance Music, and Visual Arts.

They must then select four half-year option courses. However, they cannot repeat their Technology or Arts choice from above.

The Junior Diploma

Subject Assessment Points These are calculated from assignments/tests/exams 160 points
Engagement Points These are calculated from a student’s engagement report 40 points
TOTAL POINTS – for a year 200 points

To gain an endorsement with Excellence a student will need to gain more than 80% of the available credits

To gain an endorsement with Merit a student will need to gain more than 60% of the available credits

To gain an endorsement  with Achieved a student will need to gain at least 45% of the available credits

Calculating the subject assessment points:

Each subject area will have a number of assignment/tests/exams worth points, normally 4 points or 8 points.

A full-year course like English or Mathematics at Year 9 is worth 24 points.

Points will be allocated for each assessment, using the following formula:

100% of the point value if the assessment is gained with Excellence

75% of the point value if the assessment is gained with Merit

50% of the point value if the assessment is gained with Achieved

25% of the point value if the assessment is Not Achieved

0% of the point value if the student did not make an attempt

For example

An English Assessment on formal writing is worth 8 Points.

8 points if they gained the assessment with Excellence

6 points if they gained the assessment with Merit

4 points if they gained the assessment with Achieved

2 points if they attempted the assessment but got Not Achieved

0 points if they did not make an attempt

Engagement Points – calculation

40 points will be awarded based on the engagement report (10 Points will be awarded each term).

The points will be given based on the total engagement percentage divided by 10.
