Cricket is a well-established traditional summer sport at NPBHS. Over its long history the school has produced a number of national representatives and successful teams. Currently Old Boy William Young is a contracted Blackcap and attending the 2023 World Cup in India.

The cricket season commences in early October and, with a break over Christmas, finishes up in April. All teams take part in regular Saturday competitions. The senior teams play on a Saturday afternoon and the junior and social teams play on a Saturday morning.

In addition to playing premier men’s grade on a Saturday, the 1st XI play annual traditional fixtures against Wellington College, Hamilton Boys' High School, Auckland Grammar School, and Whanganui Collegiate. The 1st XI also competes in the national knock-out Gillette Cup and Super 8 competitions. The Year 9 and 10 side have also competed in traditional fixtures with Wellington College and Hamilton Boys' High School and participate in the Seddon Cup which is a regional North Island competition.

Competition and Teams: The 1st XI plays in the Taranaki Premier Competition. The 2nd XI and 3rd XI play in the TCA Division 2 grade. 


Facilities and Training: Training is held after school and is spread across 3 areas that are dedicated to cricket: the top field that is solely for cricket with both artificial and grass nets, the Sulzberger indoor cricket facility, and Webster field.

Uniform and Equipment: Players are expected to provide their own gear. 1st XI and Junior 1st XI are provided with one-day strips, or other cricketers will need to purchase a white cricket top from the Uniform Shop.


Cost: Subs vary from year to year, and there is a cost for trips away.
