Winter Week has now wrapped up, bringing another busy and successful term at NPBHS to a close.
It has been great to see our students representing the school across the winter sporting season, along with plenty of other achievements and activities taking place across the school. See below for the final results.
We’ve also enjoyed reconnecting with Old Boys, including at our recent Christchurch reunion. Coming up in early October, we’re looking forward to hosting an Old Boys’ Gathering in Sydney and continuing to strengthen our connections with the wider NPBHS community. More details about the Sydney Old Boys’ Gathering are below – please register your interest if you are able to join us.
The Headmaster will also be in Sydney with our Cricket teams, who are heading across from 3–12 October 2026 for an exciting 10-day Australian Cricket Tour. The tour includes six matches against Sydney schools and cricket academies, as well as opportunities to experience some of Sydney’s iconic attractions, including Bondi Beach, Circular Quay and the SCG Museum and Tour Experience. If you would like to know when the games are taking place, please email me.
We’d love to reconnect with our Old Boys living in Sydney and invite you to come along and support the teams while they’re in town. Come along to a match, catch up with fellow Old Boys and show the boys some NPBHS support from the sidelines. It would be fantastic to see a strong NPBHS presence in Sydney as our cricketers take on some quality local opposition.
If you would like to share a story from your time at NPBHS or support the school, please get in touch.
Warm regards
Jade Tyrrell
Alumni Manager
FEATURED ARTICLE:
It’s hard to believe it has already been a year since the new Gully Ground was officially opened at New Plymouth Boys’ High School.
What was once a major construction project has quickly become an important part of everyday life at NPBHS – providing a modern, high-quality space for sport, recreation, school events and the wider school community.
Over the past 12 months, The Gully has been well and truly put to use. From rugby matches and training sessions to school activities and major events, the ground has become a familiar and much-loved feature of the school campus.
The upgraded facility has provided our students with an improved playing surface and a versatile space that can be used throughout the year. It has also enhanced the experience for spectators, coaches, staff and visiting schools.
One of the highlights has been seeing The Gully come alive during major sporting fixtures. The ground has hosted home games and provided a fantastic setting for students to represent NPBHS in front of their peers, whānau and supporters.
For our students, however, The Gully is about more than just competition. It is a place where friendships are built, skills are developed and memories are made – whether that is during a lunchtime game, a training session, a school event or a big match under the lights.
We look forward to seeing many more sporting moments, school events and student memories created on The Gully in the years ahead.
